About 1,100 people live in the township of Trout Lake, a community that adjoins the cities of Coleraine, Bovey, and Taconite, and the Town of Blackberry. The people have had organized town government since 1894―before development of the Mesabi Iron Range―and continue to uphold their right to self-govern.
Trout Lake is home to the state’s oldest recorded Bald Eagle nests. Their long term protection is assured by Minnesota’s preservation of two parcels of land (38 acres) that contain 3 eagle nests and several potential white pine nesting trees.
Trout Lake is home to a popular Itasca County Trail: Alder Pond. Grand Rapids Ruffed Grouse Society chapter is one of the biggest in the country and they helped fund the Alder Pond Grouse Management Area. The trail is used for hiking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, and hunting.
Trout Lake is the location of Kom-On-In Recreational Area owned and managed by the Greenway Lions Club. It includes 32 RV sites, a public beach, pavilion, and public boat landing on Trout Lake.The address is 25709 County Road10, Bovey, MN, 55709.

The people of Trout Lake have a wonderful community center set on 10 acres, to use for social gatherings. In addition, the town is situated within two school districts and gains opportunities from both educational institutions, plus Itasca Community College which is an easy commute.

Trout Lake is Connected!
Beginning fall 2014, the people in Town of Trout Lake will have the opportunity for an all fiber optic network connection directly to their homes via Paul Bunyan Communications―a cooperative based in Bemidji. A town committee established in August 2009 under the tutelage of Bill Coleman of Community Technology Advisors [his services paid by Blandin Foundations’ Broadband Initiative] persevered to gain high-speed internet access.
