  • Bass Master Classic Bracket Tournament

    September 19, 2017-September 22, 2017 @
    Pokegama Lake

    September 19-22
    Bassmaster Classic Bracket Returns

In 2016, the Bassmaster Elite Series introduced the Classic Bracket to spice up the regular-season schedule. This year, instead of having the event midseason, the live-streamed tournament will begin shortly after the conclusion of the Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year Championship on Mille Lacs Lake.

Another twist that will make the competition even more compelling is that the eight contestants vying for a Classic invitation will be the first eight just outside the Classic cut. The Bassmaster Classic Bracket tournament will provide one of the eight a last-chance invitation to the Super Bowl of bass fishing.

This year, it’s taking place at picturesque Grand Rapids, Minn., on Pokegama Lake, Sept. 19-22. Fans will be able to follow the action on Bassmaster.com via Bassmaster LIVE.

With a Classic spot on the line, this unique tournament style will not feature a daily weigh-in; rather each bass will be weighed by a B.A.S.S. official on the competitor’s boat and immediately released.

The contestants will be fishing for a five-bass limit from their own boats, and brackets will be set based on AOY points leading into the event.

After two days of competition, four anglers will be eliminated. The semifinal round will take place on Day 3, with the remaining anglers going head to head.

The final day will pit the remaining two anglers in a head-to-head battle. The angler with the heaviest limit will receive a 2018 Bassmaster Classic berth.

Songwriter Michael Ferrier cites classic touchstones such as The Velvet Underground, Tom Petty, Gram Parson's "Cosmic American Music", and the Laurel Canyon songwriters, but even with these influences Fathom Lane manages a contemporary sound. The blend of Ferrier's steady and simple tenor with fellow singer Ashleigh Still's more mellifluous soul is a main feature of the rich sound Fathom Lane brews; the band invite their listeners in and then delight them with audio surprises.

  • Reality Roadshow: We Are All Criminals Edition

    September 25, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Reif Performing Arts Center, 720 NW Conifer Dr, Grand Rapids, MN 55744, USA

zAmya Theater’s Reality Roadshow takes stereotypes of homelessness and turns them inside out, exposing true stories of the streets. With a multi-talented cast of actors, most of whom are or have been homeless, this show educates and entertains. Homelessness is a broad topic directly affecting over 10,000 on a nightly basis in Minnesota and indirectly impacting all Minnesotans.

Having a criminal background is regarded as the greatest barrier to securing safe, affordable housing. And yet, housing can play the most important role in helping a person get their life back on track. We explore this contradiction in Reality Roadshow: We are All Criminals Edition. Pete, recently released from Prison and ready for a fresh start, begins a surreal journey filled with roadblock after barrier after hoop to finding a new life. Does the system offer any escape from his background? With humor, drama and a song and dance or two, the Reality Roadshow offers audiences a chance to consider attitudes toward crime and criminals in comparison with societal practices. In hearing this story, we must ask ourselves do we believe restitution is possible? And if so – then why are things set up the way they are?

zAmya Theater Project is a theater company housed at St. Stephen’s Human Services. Through community-based theater we raise awareness and understanding of homelessness and generate the public will to end it. Founded by Lecia Grossman in 2004 zAmya (Sanskrit for “aiming at peace”) seeks to turn homeless from word into a person. A troupe of actors, many of whom have experienced homelessness, guide the artistic vision. Our annual Fall Roadshow shares stories and information about homelessness and related issues with hundreds of audience members in venues throughout Minnesota. In the last three years we’ve reached over one hundred participants through our Satellite Sessions where we bring creativity to shelters, housing facilities and other companies and organizations.

Free and open to the public.

Reif Performing Arts Center, 720 NW Conifer Dr, Grand Rapids, MN 55744, USA

They sit down next to each other and as the train gathers speed the film breaks. As the realities on stage and screen begin to blur, the characters in Matinee yearn to escape from their everyday lives with the hope of finding human connection and romance.
Like a narrative puzzle, each scene explores the complexities of relationships between these characters.

    Dear first-grade journal,

Hooray, hooray! TheatreworksUSA is making a musical all about me, Junie B. Jones! (The B stands for Beatrice, only I do not like Beatrice. I just like B and that's all.)

This is the bestest musical ever, with loads of funny songs, and it's all based on a bunch of books this lady, Barbara Park, wrote about me and the things I do in first grade.

I think I might like first grade after all!

Love, (but not the mushy kind)
    Junie B.

    Recommended for grades K - 5

    October 9, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Reif Performing Arts Center, 720 NW Conifer Dr, Grand Rapids, MN 55744, USA

The Ivey Award-winning History Theatre’s production of Sweet Land, the musical, follows the story of Inge Altenberg as she journeys to America to marry a bachelor farmer, sight unseen. In the wake of WWI, Inge’s German heritage turns her new neighbors against the match. Under cathedral skies, the determined young immigrant and her stoic farmer fight for their lives, facing their own misgivings and the harshness of an unforgiving land. A lyrical celebration of hard-won independence and a reflection of generations past, Sweet Land, the musical, reminds us of who we are - and where we came from.

    Produced by History Theatre
    Book by Perrin Post
Lyrics & Book by Laurie Flanigan-Hegge
    Music by Dina Maccabee
