There is something special about small communities that still have an active and vibrant downtown business district with updated brick storefronts. The Grand Rapids businesses get into the holiday spirit to decorate their window displays; think smaller version of Macy’s window displays. You will feel a sense of community when you mingle about the shops and restaurants. The theme of this year’s WinterGlo Festival is “Old Fashioned Christmas”. From the window displays to the features of the WinterGlo Festival, you will feel like you have stepped back in time to your childhood.
The WinterGlo Festival is a family friendly event. This event was created for all ages to enjoy. The first day of the event coincides with the First Friday Art Walk on Friday, December 2nd. Enjoy all of the local artists and their work at the hosting area businesses. Then make sure to head over to the Historic Central School Marketplace for Santa lighting the lights, sleigh rides, Santa’s Workshop and make a free ornaments in Santa’s workshop. Then go warm up in the Central Square Mall to shop at the arts and craft sales throughout the mall. Then consider to head to a live music performance at The Reif Center, attend the Madrigal Dinner put on by the Grand Rapids Choir, or attend live jazz at the VFW. And don’t forget to vote on your favorite window display before the end of the night. Each vote is $1 and the money goes towards Baby Steps Boutique, providing successful parenting resources and supplies to those in need.
The fun continues into Saturday, December 3rd for breakfast with Santa, Christmas at the Logging Camp, arts and crafts bazaars, pictures with Santa, and make sure to stop by the Womens Club to try the spud dog. Then check out the nightly entertainment options “Home is Where The Heart Is” dinner, that supports the GRACE house, or night two of Madrigal Dinner at Sugar Lake Lodge.
Then on Sunday, December 4th, more shopping options for all of the people on your list. Check out the “May the Tree Tops Glisten” St Josephs bazaar, and the holiday craft market in the Central Square Mall. You will find over 50 vendors that are selling homemade goods, crafts, re purposed items, baked goods and artists creations.
