Shop Small Saturday was originated by American Express, and launched on November 27, 2010. It was created to encouraged people across the country to support small, local businesses. Since this first year, small, local businesses have seen huge success. It has been a way for business owner communities come together and unite for one day around the same purpose and value statements.
The Downtown Business Association of Grand Rapids has been doing a Shop Small promotion among the downtown businesses since 2010. Each year is a little different schedule and program, but each year the downtown businesses run in store specials, collaborate on marketing, and contests and prizes.
The date for Shop Small Saturday is November 26, 2016. The Grand Rapids Downtown Business Association has come up with a Facebook contest encouraging people to #ShopSmall and support their favorite local Grand Rapids, MN businesses. On Small Business Saturday, November 26, anyone who takes a photo at a downtown Grand Rapids business and tag us @GRDowntownBusinessAssociation will be entered in a drawing for $100 in Grand Rapids Area Chamber Bucks.
