Strawberries, Jazz and Art Walks

Welcome back to my blog. This week was full of some fun events and activities, and I have a lot to share!

To start off my week, I headed out to Lunemann’s Luney Berries Strawberry Farm. This farm is only about nine miles from Grand Rapids, and they have fields upon fields of strawberries to pick from! Once you get there, you can purchase pre-picked strawberries or go out and pick them yourself! They also have a Luneyberry Luncheonette on site with a delicious menu and there are jelly and jams for purchase.

Upon arriving, I was greeted by the friendly staff, they gave me a bucket to pick, and I was given a ride out to the strawberry fields in an ATV. I was amazed at how many rows of fresh juicy strawberries there were, and excited to pick them! It didn’t take long to fill up the bucket, and I could hardly wait to get home to eat the bright ripened strawberries. I also found it neat, that on the site there was a newly remodeled barn for weddings and other events! It was done so nice, and the location is gorgeous for a wedding overlooking all the strawberries!

Wednesday night, I headed to the Grand Rapids VFW Post 1720 for an evening of Jazz. Sam Miltich and Friends play jazz every Wednesday evening, for a couple hours. I had such a good time relaxing and listening to the music! There was a nice sized crowd in the VFW, and I thought that it was awesome that such a variety of ages were there listening. There is also live music every first Friday of the month, so if you can’t make it on Wednesdays, head out on a first Friday!

The Grand Rapids Public Art Walk is a mapped walking tour of different types of art in the downtown Grand Rapids area. The walk starts at MacRostie Art Center, and goes to 14 other locations all within walking distance. The art ranges from murals, to sculptures and even mosaics, and each piece on the map is given a short description that introduces you to the history of the artwork. It was interesting learning about each piece and getting an insight of the rich history in the Grand Rapids area. This was a fun activity to do, on a nice summer day, because it got me into a lot of local businesses and buildings that I may not have went to otherwise.

This past week, I also attended the First Friday Art Walk. This is a monthly event that takes place on the first Friday of every month. You may remember me talking about it in last month’s blog. I had fun this time again visiting local businesses, mingling with others and enjoying the local art. A couple of the places I went to this week was Jenny & Company and Wings ‘n Willows Art Gallery & Custom Framing. I had a great time at both, and was able to see some beautiful artwork on display in both shops.

Between now and my next week’s blog, there’s a lot going on! I’m attending a spa day at True North Salon and Spa, the World’s Largest Wild Rice Festival is happening in Deer River, the Timberman Triathlon, the Downtown Art Fair, and the Great Minnesota Pie Extravaganza are all events happening this weekend as well! So if you’ve attended or are going to attend any of these events, tell me about them on Facebook, and make sure to check in next week on my blog to hear about my experiences!
