Mt Itasca is an outdoor attraction that you will want to consider on your “To Do” list this winter. Mt Itasca is located only 10 minutes east of Grand Rapids, Minnesota. And the GREAT news is that Mt Itasca has already started making SNOW!
There is an abundance of winter outdoor recreation offered at Mt Itasca Winter Sports Center. Enjoy the hills of the multiple downhill ski runs or try the “Area 51” snowboard terrain. Skiing and snowboarding equipment rentals are available. Mt Itasca has a chair lift and a POMA lift. They also have professionally groomed snowtubing runs that everyone can enjoy. From young to old, it is a great way to get the whole family to enjoy the winter season. And when you are start to get cold, head into the chalet to enjoy a hot chocolate, coffee and a few snacks at the concession.
Other things that happen at Mt Itasca is world class Olympic training for Biathlon and Ski Jumping. Mt Itasca has one of the oldest ski jumps in the state of Minnesota. The jumping program offers training and competition on 10-, 20-, 40- and 70-meter ski jumps. Jumpers and Bi-athletes comes from around the world to train here. The ski jump is not open to the general public. It is set aside for the ski jump team. But, it is fun to walk up the ski jump in off-season and look at the vantage point of the view from way up high.
Mt Itasca has 10 KM of groomed cross country ski trails. There is trails that are available from beginner to expert level. There is a trail for every level of skier. Mt Itasca has a school aged children program every Sunday. Mt Itasca hosts many tournaments at the sight each season. From downhill skiing, snowboarding, ski jumping, biathlon and cross country skiing. These are fun events to enjoy from the chalet, or from the slopes live action.
