The first weekend of November (better known as the MN Deer Opener – rifle season) is a GREAT weekend to Head North to Grand Rapids for much more than just hunting! But, if you are a Deer Hunter, we have that too!
MN Governor’s Deer Opener
Grand Rapids is the city host of this year’s 15th Annual MN Governor’s Deer Opener. The event is set for Thursday, November 2nd. So, as you Head North to your annual deer camp, swing into the Timberlake Lodge Hotel. Free event – Welcome to Deer Camp Expo is from 3-6:30pm, family friendly and open to the public. Watch the NASP Grand Rapids and Hill City Archers compete in a tournament at 3pm. Wear your blaze orange to take part in the Blaze Orange Picture at 5:30pm. Stay for the Welcome to Camp Banquet at a cost of $35/person for a gourmet prime rib dinner. Purchase tickets ONLINE.
The first Saturday in November is Annual Craft Sales and Holiday Open Houses. The Sawmill Inn, Timberlake Lodge Hotel, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and Itasca YMCA are all hosting craft and bazaar sales. At these sales you will find wonderful gift items, clothing, jewelry, candles, wood signs, vintage items, baked goods, canned goods, and much, much more. There are many Restaurants in Grand Rapids. The 17th Street Grill is located inside the Timberlake Lodge Hotel; they offer all you can eat salad bar, wings, breadsticks and soup, and also a full lunch menu. Cedars Dining is located inside the Sawmill Inn; they offer lunch specials, lunch buffet, and a full lunch menu. If you are looking for the place where all of the locals go, check out: Brewed Awakenings, Air Espresso, Forest Lake Restaurant, Florio’s , El Potro and Toivo’s. All of these locations are open for lunch and specialize in homemade options.
Come to town on the First Friday and enjoy the Art Walk. Every month downtown businesses showcase and host local and Minnesota artists and performers in their stores. Walk through the stores and downtown to enjoy art, shop, take in the live music. FREE and open to the public. Refreshments and appetizers served in many stores.
There are many live entertainment options the first weekend of November. STOMP is performing at the Reif Center. They added a Saturday matinee at 2pm. Tickets are ONLY $36/person. Your chance to see a broadway touring group in Grand Rapids, MN. Live Music will be at the Eagles Club Friday and Saturday Night. Live Jazz will happen on Friday night at the VFW featuring Sam Miltich and Friends.
