Grand Rapids To Host Hockey Day 2013

On June 26, 2012 the Minnesota Wild and Fox Sports North announced that Grand Rapids, Minnesota will host the 2013 Hockey Day in Minnesota.  Hockey Day has become a hockey tradition in Minnesota, and Grand Rapids is proud to be the host for the 2013 event.  The 2013 Hockey Day in Minnesota will be the seventh annual event.

The 2013 Minnesota Hockey Day event will feature high school hockey match-ups with Eagan playing Hibbing, and Class 2A state champions, Benilde-St. Margaret’s playing Grand Rapids in boys’ games.  Hibbing will play Grand Rapids in a girls’ game.  Game times will be announced at a later date.  All games are scheduled to be played outdoors on Pokegama Lake in front of the Pokegama Golf Course Club House.  A back-up indoor option is available for in climate weather.

Visit Grand Rapids is helping to coordinate the lodging and meals portion of the event.  Megan Christianson, Executive Director of Visit Grand Rapids stated, “We are proud to be the 2013 host. This gives us an opportunity to showcase our hockey spirit as well as highlight the Grand Rapids community in all it has to offer the winter visitor”.  Christianson encourages teams and spectators to check out lodging, shopping and dining options by checking out the Visit Grand Rapids website.
