Grand Rapids Ice Fishing Report 1/21/15

Winter CrappieGrand Rapids Ice Fishing Report 1/21/15 is by Tom Neustrom, MN Fishing Connections.  Tom Neustrom is a professional fishing guide who resides in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

Winter is taking a new page out of what could have been. It’s been kind of the “Good and Bad”, but here we are towards the end of January and spring is right around the corner. The winter fishing continues to be good on Grand Rapids area lakes and especially for panfish. Crappies and bluegills continue to provide consistent action and there are countless lakes that have been keeping anglers smiling. Perch fishing on Big Winnibigoshish has been good and with little snow on the ice has given unlimited opportunities to find them.

Check with area bait shops and resorts to find the best accesses to the lake and also the location of pressure ridges to avoid. There is anywhere from 20-24 inches of ice on area lakes and travel has been good to excellent. The northern pike fishing has still remained good and now that the inland trout fishing is available it offers another species opportunity for anglers.  The Grand Rapids area has several good trout lakes available with lake trout, rainbows and splake the fish that most anglers pursue. You will want to check with the DNR website for fish species season and fishing regulations. A little snow would be greatly appreciated in the future.  But we are enjoying the nice weather we are having just the same.  Come and experience some of the best ice fishing in Minnesota!
