Grand Rapids Fishing Report 8-13-14 by Nik Dimich, Dimich Outdoors
Even as the water and air temps cool, fishing in the Grand Rapids area is heating up. Good to great reports are coming in from most area lakes, including Pokegama, Trout, Splithand and there are also signs that pulling crankbaits on Big Winnie/Cutfoot Sioux has produced not only walleyes, but also some very nice northern pike as well as some trophies. For walleyes, crankbaits over shallow bars and weeds have been very productive. A jig and minnow fished on the sliding slopes of midlake structures has also worked well. Smallmouth and largemouth bass continue to be extremely active on spinner baits and even a jig and minnow when casted near submerged rocks or weedy islands. Panfish have been active in the evenings near weedlines, dropping deeper during the day. As always, check with local resorts, baitshops and sporting goods people for the latest bite updates.
