Grand Rapids Fishing Report 7/1/15

The weather of late has given anglers great opportunities to get out and catch fish. The bass fishing has been exceptionally good with several lakes producing large and smallmouth bass. One they left the beds in June both species are ravenous feeders and can be caught on many lakes in the Grand Rapids area. Turtle, Pokegama, Caribou, Wabana, and Trout Lakes are all great choices for smallmouth bass.

Another under fished water is the Mississippi River below Blandin. Either float or kayak down river and there are chances at a giant smallie. Largemouth lakes abound and one of the most underfished species with over 50 lakes within 40 miles teaming with bass.

Walleyes have set up in their summer haunts and most of the lakes with deeper structure are giving up nice catches on slip sinker rigs with crawlers or a leech. Spinners and bottom bouncers are also a great way to check spots quickly for active fish.

Panfishing has been good with both seeking out new deeper weed beds and shoreline breaks with vegetation. Check around fallen trees can be another holding spot for them as well.
