Grand Rapids Fishing Report 7-22-15

Tom Neustrom Walleye

Tom Neustrom catches a nice walleye.

This week’s Grand Rapids Fishing Report by Tom Neustrom, MN Fishing Connection.

Locations of many species will continue to change as food sources become available. As water temperatures continue to warm in area lakes forage such as crayfish, species of minnows, tulibees, and bottom dwelling critters that all fish dine on at many times of the year all come into play. Would you ever believe that walleyes eat crayfish at this time of year! Crayfish shed their shells in July and early August and are vulnerable to predators around rocky and some weed locations. It last about 3-4 weeks. Again it’s all about location, location, location.

Hidden Haven Resort

Nice bass caught on Bass Lake while staying at Hidden Haven Resort.

Fishing for walleyes has been good on all area lakes night crawlers, leeches, and redtail chubs have been all good choices for putting walleyes in the boat. Bass fishing on Pokegama, Trout, Loon, and Turtle Lakes has been excellent. Deeper presentations such as drop-shot, jigworm, and tube worms have all been producing on deep weed lines and rock pile edges. Panfishing has been good with bluegills and crappies cooperating along deep weed lines. Small tubes, micro jigs with a small chunk of worm have been working. With so many events happening in the Grand Rapids area, come join us for great fishing and fun times.
