Grand Rapids Fishing Report 6-3-15

BFH_7655 (2)This week’s Grand Rapids Fishing Report by Tom Neustrom, MN Fishing Connections.

We always seem to come up with great quality fishing opportunities in the Grand Rapids area. Many anglers are having good success walleye fishing on area lakes. Round Lake on Scenic Hwy 7, Big Splithand, Bowstring, and several other lakes in Itasca County have been good. Leeches and rigs are starting to push the jig and shiner fisherman, but with the same cooler water temperatures of late the jig and minnow bite for walleyes remains strong. Depths of 12 to 16 feet seem to be the most consistent. With new weed beds starting to sprout Northern Pike fishing is starting to improve daily. Crappies are spawning on some lakes and on others it will happen in this next week. Lots of fun and good table fare. Smallmouth Bass are starting to show up on flats with rock and gravel. Awesome fun. Watch out for deer on the roads. Fawns will begin to show up soon and caution is encourages. Thanks for coming to Grand Rapids. We are truly about “ Minnesota’s Nature”.

Grand Rapids MinnesotaGrand Rapids isn’t just a drive through community for fishermen and fisherwomen. Grand Rapids was named the Ultimate Fishing Town by World Fishing Network in 2013.  In Grand Rapids you will find a wide variety of fish species opportunities from bass and crappies to trophy fish like walleye and northern pike.

Northern Minnesota is located in the middle of the north woods.  The county in which Grand Rapids is located has over 1,000 area fishing lakes.  Check out the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Lake Finder, and by selecting Itasca under the County box.  This will give you an alphabetic listing.  Once you click on a particular lake it will include the fishing regulations for that lake, bordering waters, types of fishing species found in this lake, any invasive species found in this lake and a google map of the lake that will also show public access of this lake.
