DENVER – June 10, 2013 – WFN: World Fishing Network, the leading entertainment destination and digital resource for anglers throughout North America, has announced the winning towns of the Ultimate Fishing Town Contest. Port Colborne, Ontario and Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, N.Y. received the most votes to receive WFN’s Ultimate Fishing Towns for 2013. WFN announced regional winners with a $3,500 community donation with the goal of bolstering fishing-related causes in each of the respective communities. Regional winners are: Gananoque, Ontario; Hampstead, New Brunswick; The Pas, Manitoba; Waddington, N.Y.; Cape Hatteras, N.C.; Cocodrie; La.; Grand Lake, Colo.; Grand Rapids, Minn.; and Bridgeport, Calif.700 towns in the U.S. and Canada received nominations and were eligible to advance in the quest to become the next Ultimate Fishing Town. Participants were asked to nominate where he or she believes is the best place to fish. Town walls were then populated with videos, photos and written comments to promote the community’s candidacy and reinforce why the town is deserving of Ultimate Fishing Town honors.
The Ultimate Fishing Town Contest was part of Visit Grand Rapids 2013 fishing niche marketing to highlight the lakes and fishing resources that we have in the Grand Rapids, MN area. Visit Grand Rapids is the Destination Marketing Organization for the Grand Rapids, MN area. Visit Grand Rapids mission is to generate a positive economic impact through travel and tourism.
Megan Christianson, Executive Director of Visit Grand Rapids shares, “We are proud to have the fishing resources that we do in the Grand Rapids area.” The fishing campaign included a Ultimate Fall Guided Fishing Trip Contest as well that included three nights lodging at Hidden Haven Resort on Bass Lake, guided fishing trips with Nik Dimich (Dimich Outdoors), Tom Neustrom (MN Fishing Connections), dinner at Sammy’s Pizza, a casino package at White Oak Casino, a micro Aqua Vu under water camera, and a welcome basket of locally produced products. The winner is Shana F. from Anderson, MO. The trip contest was conducted through Fishhound.com through social media sources. Christianson adds, “We welcome anglers to experience fishing in Minnesota’s nature”.
