Welcome back to my blog. This week I attended the Weekend of Wheels in Grand Rapids! There was a lot going on, and I can’t wait to tell you about my experiences.
Dairy Queen Old Car Night
I started off my Weekend of Wheels at the Grand Rapids Dairy Queen this past week. Every Thursday during May through September, a variety of old cars show up and park in the parking lot next to Dairy Queen. The restaurant offers a buy one get one free treat to anyone who drives in a collector vehicle. According to Steve Hutchins from Dairy Queen, “Some days we have 40 cars out there”. I had an awesome time strolling around the lot. It was fun to see all the cars parked, and people enjoying their DQ treats and each other’s company.
To top off the fun, it was Miracle Treat Day. During this day, $1 from every Blizzard Treat was donated to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. There were a ton of people out that evening, supporting Miracle Treat day and enjoying the old cars. The weather was gorgeous and the atmosphere was fun, all in all it was a great evening!
Northern Minnesota Swap Meet and Car Show
My next event for this vehicle filled weekend was the Northern Minnesota Swap Meet and Car Show at the Itasca County Fair Grounds. This event ran throughout the whole weekend and had live music, a flea market, beer garden, good ‘fair’ food and of course classic cars! I really enjoyed eating my fair food, while walking around looking at all the flea market items. The Itasca County Fair Grounds is located in a beautiful area, and all the flea market booths were surrounded by gorgeous tall pines with the lake shimmering in the background. You could hear the live music playing in the background as you shopped around and enjoyed the vehicles.
Northern Cruisers Car Club Car Show
To end my Weekend of Wheels, I headed over to the IRA Civic Center for the Northern Cruisers Car Club’s car show. This show had over 250 cars and also offered breakfast and lunch! There was a free shuttle running between the swap meet and this car show, which made it very easy to get from one event to the other. It was awesome to see all the old cars out, and you could tell everyone was enjoying being there. There was so many things to look at, and the weather was perfect for a day outside. The Northern Cruisers Car Club ended their weekend, with a cruise consisting of almost 100 cars! Watching all the classics drive by, was a perfect way to top off the Weekend of Wheels!
Between now and my next week’s blog, I’ll be attending Tall Timber Days and participating in the Great River Energy Mesabi Trail Tour! If you are going to attend any of these events, tell me about them on Facebook, I want to hear about your experiences! Make sure to check in next week on my blog to hear about my time at these events!
