Swing into Spring with Arts Events in Grand Rapids, MN

Grand Rapids, Minnesota is home to much more than beautiful lakes, the amazing north woods, and a variety of unforgettable vacation experiences. We are also home to two terrific organizations that celebrate, promote, and offer arts related events to the community and to visitors. Read on to find out what’s happening at the Reif Center and the MacRostie Center for the Arts, both in Grand Rapids!

The Reif Center

The Reif Center is committed to promoting arts in northern Minnesota. You won’t want to miss experiencing a show or arts event in this beautiful facility, recently expanded in 2016. Here’s a small sample of upcoming events.

  • The duo Dusty Heart will perform on Thursday, April 20, 7:30 p.m. Songwriters Barbara Jean and Molly Dean create a blend of indie and folk music with guitar, fiddle and banjo. Unique vocal styles and poetic lyrics combine for a “powerful and haunting sound.”\
  • Join us for the James Sewell Ballet on Friday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. This dance group brings a unique and powerful blend of classical, modern dance, chutzpah, and humor. Prepare to expand your horizons and to challenge any preconceptions about classical dance!
  • You don’t have to go to the big city to see the Minnesota Orchestra. Enjoy them in the beauty and the peace of the Minnesota north woods! The orchestra comes to Grand Rapids on Friday, May 19, at 7:30 p.m. with performances of Tchaikovsky. Ravel, and Brahms.

The MacRostie Center for the Arts

This fine gallery offers exhibits, workshops, events, and First Friday Openings. First Friday events are timed with the openings of new exhibits at the MacRostie. First Friday celebrates local and regional artists and their offerings. On a first Friday, you’ll have a chance to see and experience a variety of local talent, as well as hear artists discuss their work and the creative process. Take a short walk to nearby arts destinations and enjoy food and music on a day devoted to celebrating the arts in Grand Rapids.
