The vacations we dream about are full of sunny days and a whole week of beautiful weather. In reality, there’s a chance for rain during part of your family’s summer vacation. If today’s outlook for Grand Rapids is rain followed by drizzle, here are a few rainy day family fun activities!
First things first: rainy days are the perfect time to throw in a load of laundry (there are several laundromats in town) and restock supplies. Get a list together, and then hit one of these area attractions when the clothes come out of the dryer.
Things To Do On A Rainy Day in Grand Rapids:
Grand Rapids has a wonderful public library. It’s open Monday through Friday and located on NE 2nd Street. If the Summer Reading Program is already part of your summer, then the kids will be excited to see their vacation town’s library displaying the same posters and themed events that are part of many Minnesota libraries.
The Children’s Discovery Museum and Judy Garland Museum are a uniquely Grand Rapids experience. One ticket price covers both museums. While the kids may not linger at the Wizard of Oz displays, the talking tree, dinosaur dig sand box, water table and costumes along River Town will keep them busy until the skies clear.
Need to get moving? Head for the Itasca County Family YMCA. Look for the coupon in the Visit Grand Rapids tourist guide (one free day pass with purchase of same) or bring your current membership card from home to receive member’s rates. This Y offers a fitness center, indoor track, pool, open gym, and babysitting center for kids under 8 years old.
Still raining? Thunder Alley XL Bowling is an updated bowling alley with the latest in arcade games. Again, check out the Visit Grand Rapids guide for a coupon worth 2 free lanes of bowling. The McDonald’s on Highway 169 has an indoor Play Place, and the Mann’s Cinema 8 is sure to have a good movie for the kids.
Does it look like the wet weather is here to stay? Get on down to L&M Supply or Glen’s Army Navy where you’ll find the perfect rain suit and a nice pair of puddle boots. Many vacation memories can be made in the rain…it’s just part of Minnesota’s Nature.
