Grand Rapids
is Singing the Blues
The 10th Annual Boundary Water Blues
Festival is being held for the first
time in Grand Rapids on July 29-August
1. If you love real, Chicago blues,
you’ll love this festival. The four-day
event features quality headline acts, a
fun laid-back atmosphere, and the off- beat
sideline entertainment that has made
this festival a fan favorite. Onsite
camping is available, or the area has a
dozen hotels to choose from. Buy your
tickets at a discount before the July 1
price increase, then be sure to
enter the Blues Fest Sweepstakes for
a chance to win a weekend stay with
hotel and tickets included. (If you win,
you can give your tickets to a friend
and sing the blues together!)

Sawmill Inn –
Walleye ala Ritz

Forest Lake
Restaurant – upstairs or
steakhouse (either is good)
-
Jack’s Grill –
at Sugar Lake Lodge
-
Florio’s – Fish
Sandwich
-
Other notables
include the Timberwolf Inn, Gosh
Dam Place, (and Muddy’s Garage –
which isn’t an actual
restaurant, but nice for them
that they have a following!)
A Fishing
Guide is a Good Investment
You’ve spent all year planning your
vacation and looking forward to time
away from work. Now, make sure you
make the most of your fishing time
by
hiring a great guide. Hiring a
fishing guide may seem like a
luxury, but if you don’t have your
own equipment or really want to
invest in learning how to find fish,
a guide can be a great way to do
that quickly so your valuable
vacation time is productive and fun.
Not only will you know the secrets
for your next trip, but you’ll have
more time fishing with your kids
while someone else outfits and
pilots the boat. A
list of local guides is
available on the Visit Grand Rapids
website.
Grand Rapids Lands the 2011 Governor’s
Fishing Opener
We may not know who the next Minnesota
Governor will be, but we do know they
will be fishing at their first opener in
Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The Grand
Rapids area will
host
the 2011 event at Ruttger’s Sugar Lake
Lodge next spring. Held in partnership
with Explore Minnesota Tourism, the
event draws local, state and national
media attention each year as Minnesota’s
Governor takes to the water for this
popular tradition and symbolic start of
the summer travel season. Members of the
Grand Rapids Host Committee traveled to
Kabetogama to accept the bid for the
2011 event, and planning efforts are
well under way for this festive event. |
