Old-Fashioned Sleigh & Cutter Rally
Straight out of a Currier & Ives painting, the 5th Annual Sleigh & Cutter Rally will grace the golf course at Wendigo Lodge from Noon – 2pm on February 13th. This event showcases old-fashioned horse-drawn sleighs and cutters that were popular during the Victorian Era. Expect to see 15-20 teams for this event. Participants usually dress in vintage costumes, and horse-drawn wagon rides will be available for a small charge. Visitors are definitely welcome; there is no cost for spectators.

Valentine’s Day Romance…It’s Not Rocket Science.
Planning a memorable Valentine’s weekend getaway doesn’t have to be stressful and full of hype. We think the less stressful the better. Stress reduction starts with easy planning, so here is a menu of ideas to make your romantic weekend special - and fun for both of you.

  • Book your reservations right away. Surprise your sweetheart with a note in their calendar/datebook to save the date, but keep the location a secret. You’ll find links to quality B&B’s, log cabins with fireplaces, or romantic hotel suites on visitgrandrapids.com

  • Reserve your dinner reservations, or at least have an idea of where you might like to eat. The dining section will help you decide what kind of food is available in the area. It will show your sweetheart that you thought ahead.

  • If you like the outdoors, try something you’ve never done before. The area offers over 112K of cross-country ski trails, dog-sledding trips, and fantastic snowmobile trails. All the equipment you need is locally available for rent and can be delivered to most locations.

  • If you are not the outdoorsy type, consider a trip to the charming downtown shopping district followed by a stop at a local coffeehouse. A collectible handcrafted bead or charm for her bracelet (or for him, a stop at a local sporting goods store) can be a fun way to take home a special memento of your trip. The downtown area is home to many specialty shops featuring jewelry and local art.

  • If you are still struggling, or have recently found yourself in the doghouse, we suggest a call to Shaw Florists and their neighbor Three Bears Candy Company. Having a box of hand-dipped chocolates and floral arrangement waiting in your room when you arrive, just might help.

If you can’t break away on Valentine’s Weekend, you can still plan your trip for a different weekend and present that to your sweetheart on the 14th. It will give you both more time to look forward to the trip.

More than 550 social media users are enjoying our new Grand Rapids Facebook page. We like to think of it as Grand Rapids Lite – ˝ the seriousness of our regular website, but all the fun. We chat about fun places to see, things to do, and where the good food is. This month we are on a quest to gather photos of the Big, Crazy Foods in the area. We invite our visitors to join in on the conversation and share your Grand Rapids stories. You don’t have to be a Facebook member to view our page.
