A Break from the Holiday Hub-Bub
If the holidays were a bit taxing on your nerves, we have New Year’s Eve solutions for you! Whether you need alone time with your someone special, or just want to get your kids away from their normal environment for some uninterrupted family time, Grand Rapids is close enough to be convenient, but far enough away to be an escape. Area hotels and resorts are offering discounted packages over the New Year’s Weekend so you can relax, recharge, or reconnect with the special people in your life. Get a massage, go see a movie, try dogsledding, enjoy dinner out and a good glass of wine, or just sit by the swimming pool – it really is that easy. Large cabins are still available for big families or a couples’ weekend with friends, or try a local hotel or B&B for a truly relaxing getaway. Click here for our most current lodging deals.

4th Annual Pink Ribbon Ride
Minnesota’s 4th Annual Pink Ribbon Ride will be held in Grand Rapids at Sugar Lake Lodge on January 8 & 9, 2010. The Pink Ribbon Ride is a snowmobile fundraising ride to support breast cancer patients during a financially difficult time. While other fundraisers support cancer research, the dollars raised during the pink ribbon ride are used to help those undergoing treatment to offset the cost of treatment and daily needs. A banquet, silent auction, and guided trails rides are part of this festive weekend. To join the fun as a ride participant, banquet attendee, or volunteer, visit Pink Ribbon Riders for more information.

It’s January--We thought you could use a good laugh.
The idea of January in Minnesota may not warm your heart, but a good laugh and evening out at the Reif Center surely will. For those who love comedy, January is your month as the Reif Center features three outstanding comedic performances.

The Reif Center's January performances include a number of comedies, such as the Church Basement Ladies.

Jan. 9th Church Basement Ladies
Jan. 15th C. Willi Myles & Kevin Kling
Jan. 26th Post Comedy Theater

Overnight lodging & theater packages are available at VisitGrandRapids.com. Your hotel or resort will book your theater performance tickets for you and have them waiting for you at check-in at the front desk.

Only in Minnesota
Since Minnesota introduced a conceal and carry firearms permit system last year, we’ve seen a proliferation of signs that announce where firearms are not permitted. Those with pets are usually well informed by similar signage of where their four-legged friends are not permitted. Now, those traveling with hockey sticks, be forewarned....there are limits to where you can play hockey. (There must be a good story behind the need for posting a sign.)
