It's In Minnesota's Nature . . . to Celebrate Fall!
Who doesn’t love fall in Minnesota? While it can be bittersweet to say goodbye to the sunny days of summer, fall is a splendid season of vibrant color and harvest time. From fall bird migration or fishing, to fall hiking amongst the beautiful display of fall colors, there is no better time to enjoy the outdoors. In this issue, we highlight a few of our favorite fall happenings and invite you to explore our website for a complete calendar of fall events.

Goods From the Woods
Goods From the Woods is a two-day celebration of our northwoods forests held each September. Visitors can enjoy two days of entertainment and shopping at the UpNorth Marketplace held at the IRA Civic Center, and participate in master craftsman workshops with world-renowned Swedish carver, Per Helldorff. Vendors at the September 20th & 21st marketplace feature hand-made art, crafts, and other products originating from Minnesota’s forests.

47 Mile-Long Garage Sale
On September 20 & 21st, the 47 mile long Edge of the Wilderness National Scenic Byway becomes the region’s longest garage sale route. Home owners and businesses along this scenic, winding route set out their wares for bargain-hungry shoppers. Sales run Saturday and Sunday, and hours vary by location.

Wildwood Stables Open for Trail Rides
Just south of Grand Rapids, Wildwood Stables offers guided horseback riding through scenic, wooded trails. Individual riders and small groups of up to six can enjoy the fall colors from horseback at a cost of $25 per hour per rider. Advance reservations are recommended.

Chef Profile: Matthew Taylor of Wendigo Lodge
Since opening their doors, Wendigo Lodge has been known for its challenging 18-hole golf course. But lately, laudable reviews echo from the dining room. With the persona of a rock star, Executive Chef Matthew Taylor infuses his creative genius and passion for thoughtful pairing into the lodge’s culinary offerings. Diners feast on regional favorites with an attention to the freshest, locally sourced foods, and a chef’s table is available for those who enjoy the interpretive element that stages a fine dining experience.

Upcoming Event: Diva Dayz & Craft Shows
The first weekend of November is not only the Minnesota deer hunting opener, it marks the Grand Rapids area’s largest shopping weekend of the year. Our annual Diva Dayz event is a fabulous weekend of craft sales, special entertainment, pampering, and open house events that are sure to bring out your inner Diva. Over 100 craft vendors participate in this annual event and special lodging packages make it easy for you to make this a Diva Weekend.
