Join us for the 3rd Annual Fall Shop Hop
at the
Shops of Distinction on First & Third
in downtown Grand Rapids from October
13-18. Pick up your shopping passport at
any participating merchant and collect
stamps at each location for a chance to
win one of 12 beautiful gift baskets. Enjoy art on display at each location,
product sampling, special gifts, and the
fall window painting contest entries.
Shop M-F from 9a - 5p, and Saturday 10a

Girlfriend Getaway Weekend
Mark your calendars and reserve your
rooms now for our annual Girlfriend
Getaway Weekend on November 7-9. Also
called craft show weekend, this annual
event brings more than 100 craft vendors
to Grand Rapids for a town-wide shopping
frenzy. Shoppers can enjoy special
events from wine & cordial tasting,
brunch & dessert tasting, church
bazaars, open houses, and special spa
treatments. When you just cant shop any
more, enjoy an evening special
performance of Bambi on the Hood VIII at
the Reif Performing Arts Center. Visit

Pumpkin
Patches Open for Season
If your children think pumpkins come
from the grocery store, try visiting one
of our area pumpkin patches and take
home your own hand-selected pumpkin to
carve for Halloween. Cowhorn Crossing
and Nordic Ridge Farm pumpkin patches
are both open through October 31st.
MEA weekend is almost here. Enjoy hayrides,
farm animals, acres of pumpkins, and
more. Visitors to
Nordic Ridge Farm are in for a
special treat; a presidential election
themed corn maize featuring the
likenesses of Barack Obama and John
McCain.

Pumpkin Pancake Recipe |

2 cups flour |
½ tsp salt |
|
3 Tbsp brown sugar |
1 ½ cups milk |
|
2 tsp baking powder |
1 cup pumpkin puree |
|
1 tsp baking soda |
1 egg |
|
1 tsp ground allspice |
2 Tbsp vegetable oil |
|
1 tsp cinnamon |
2 Tbsp vinegar |
|
½ tsp ground ginger |
|
|
Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl and
set aside. Mix wet ingredients
separately. Stir wet ingredients to the
dry ingredients just until combined.
Cook on a lightly oiled griddle over
medium heat, using approximately Ό cup
of batter for each pancake. Brown on
both sides and serve with cinnamon
whipped cream and butter pecan syrup. |
