March
Cabin Fever Cures
If you live in Minnesota,
you already know March is an
unpredictable month when hints
of spring-like weather induce
the condition known as cabin
fever - that undeniable desire
to get outdoors and do something
active. Fortunately, with its
milder temperatures, March is
also a great time to do just
that.
Winter snowmobile trail
conditions continue to offer
a good riding experience, and
the
cross country skiing this
season has been phenomenal and
should continue for several more
weeks. The combination of thick
ice on the area lakes and warmer
air temperatures make March a
popular month for ice fishing
without the need for a permanent
shelter. (The crappie fishing is
quite good right now.) Check our
hot deals page for
current lodging specials.

Experience Iron Range Country
with a Summer Mine Tour
Grand Rapids is on the
western fringe of a vast ore
deposit called the Mesabi Iron
Range. While the immediate area
offers the classic northwoods
and waters we are famous for,
mining history and
interpretation is just a
taconite pellet’s throw away at
Hill Annex Mine
in
Calumet. Hill Annex Mine offers
three tours daily, Wednesday
through Sunday, during the
summer. Visitors have the choice
of a boat tour, bus tour, or
fossil hunting tour. The mine
offers a unique look at the
history of the region and how it
shaped the local landscape and
national economics during the
mining boom. (Click here to see
a short 30-second
video of Hill Annex Mine State
Park.) |
