Fishing Opener Approaches - April 2007
Ah, fishing opener. That time of year when everyone gets at least a little excited. For some, it’s the call of open water and the relaxation of being on the water; for others, it’s the opportunity to send everyone else fishing and enjoy some quality shopping. No matter which group you fall into, Grand Rapids has that unique combination of more than 1,000 area lakes for fishing and unique specialty stores for shopping.

Area fishing guides and bait stores are ready for the opening fishing rush and have the information and supplies you need for a successful fishing trip. Our website provides helpful contact information for professional guide services and local bait stores, and a calendar of events including any local fishing tournaments or fishing-related events. For the non-fishing people in your family, this same website provides a wealth of shopping information, entertainment, and other non-fishing events so everyone can enjoy their trip to Grand Rapids.

Grand Slam of Golf Courses Open for Season
The four Grand Rapids area golf courses, collectively known as Minnesota’s Grand Slam of Golf, are opening this weekend for the start of the summer golf season. After a long winter, we are eager to polish the clubs and hit the course for some early season play. There are some excellent early season golf and lodging specials posted on the visitgrandrapids.com website. Take advantage of the lowest rates of the season and uncrowded courses before the summer heat arrives.

What is Resorting?

Resorting is a style of family vacationing that has been popular in Minnesota since the early 1940’s. Traditional resorting vacations are week-long, Saturday to Saturday vacations involving a stay in a lakeside cabin or cottage. Many family resorts offer a wide variety of structured and self-guided activities to keep you as busy as you choose to be. Other resorts specialize in making your stay a quiet and peaceful. If your family really needs to connect with one another and separate yourselves from the distractions of daily life, we suggest you try a resorting vacation this summer. You don’t have to fish to enjoy the serenity of a northern Minnesota lake. A quiet paddle in a canoe or kayak after dinner or sipping your morning coffee while the fog lifts from the water can do wonders for purging the stress of life. Birds, water critters and other wildlife like it here, we think you will too. Grand Rapids offers a wide variety of resort experiences and prices; start your journey by browsing our resort page.
