Just 3.5 hours north of the Twin Cities, 1.5 hours west of Duluth, 2.5 hours north of St. Cloud and 3 hours east of Grand Forks. Just far enough for a real escape from everyday life, but close enough for a drive destination.

Here in the Grand Rapids, Minnesota we have over 4,000 miles of groomed trails for cross country skiing, fat tire biking,and snowmobiling. Our trails connect with state trails, like the famous Taconite Trail where you can access the Iron Range. The Norther Lights Nordic Ski Club grooms over 300k of trails in the Grand Rapids, MN area. These trails require the Great Minnesota Ski Pass which can be purchased online or at stores that sell electronic Minnesota licenses. The Forest History Center, Scenic State Park and the Joyce Estates are great places to make your own snowshoe trails. The Forest History Center has snowshoes available with paid admission and Itasca Trail Sports has snowshoes and cross country ski’s available to rent. For fat tire biking head to the Forest History Center and the Legion Trail. Our snowmobile trails cross over tamarack bogs, run under cascading pines blanketed in snow, and across old mine pits.  You will have the opportunity to get up and close with Minnesota’s nature. Mt Itasca will be open this year for downhill skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing and cross country skiing.  This is a great location for a day on the slopes with the family. Being out in Minnesota’s nature in fresh crisp air, the beautiful sites of fresh blankets of snow covering the landscape, and the sounds of Minnesota native animals like: owls, birds, and deer.

If you are looking for entertainment, check out The Reif Center performing arts center.  It is considered to be the gem of northern Minnesota. The completely remodeled performance center offers two theaters for large scale and small intimate performances. Just a few of the renowned performances have been: Wynona Judd, Rick Sprinfield, Mark Chesnutt. Some of the upcoming performances are: Neil Diamond Tribute, Vienna Boys Choir, Monroe Crossing, and STOMP. Grand Rapids has local talent as well. Every Wednesday and the first Friday of each month there is live Jazz at the VFW. Local musician Sam Miltich is a regular, but he often brings in additional musicians from all over the country to join him as well. The Fraternal Order of the Eagles has live bands every Friday and Saturday night. This is conveniently located within walking distance to the hotels on the south end of Grand Rapids. Also, you will want to come into town for a First Friday Art Walk. This is a family friendly and free event held the first Friday of each month. Downtown businesses invite local artists and musicians into their shops and host appetizers and beverages to enjoy. During the day stop in the MacRostie Art Center to enjoy the free gallery and pick up a self-guided art walk to view the public art around town. The Itasca County Historical Society has a free museum where you can take a self guided tour. The Judy Garland Museum/Children’s Discovery Center and the Forest History Center are both wonderful attractions to visit on the weekends, and are both family friendly.

Grand Rapids, MN has wonderful boutique style shops that are locally owned and offer a wide variety of gifts, home decor, clothing, jewelry, vintage, and locally created art. Stroll through the charming brick front shops of the Downtown Business Association, and the various art and historic attractions as well.
