White Oak Society
Lunch/Dinner
Great White Oak Hall
If you have ever dined with
voyageurs, then you know what to expect at the
Great White Oak Hall in Deer River (between Forest
History Center and White Oak Casino). Enjoy a
4-course lunch ($20*) or 5-course dinner ($37*)
served by living-history interpreters who will
treat you to recipes from the taverns in
Philadelphia. A tour of the site may be included;
there are 18 different interpretive stations
throughout the post (i.e., blacksmith shop,
heirloom garden, cook shack) to teach how people
lived in northern Minnesota in 1798. It was a
period when three distinct cultures intersected:
the Ojibwe, the Voyageurs and the fur traders.
