This week’s Ice Fishing Report brought to you by Tom Neustrom, MN Fishing Connections.
The door has closed on the 2015 ice fishing season for walleye, northern pike, and bass. It was a late ice up and the anglers were having trouble getting to the fish because of unsafe ice. Once the thickness improved it was game on and the fishing was good.
Panfishing on the other hand can get very good at late ice and many anglers will pursue them right until the end. Mobility still is the key, but as the weeks roll along start to ease in some and depths of 15-25 feet will be the norm. Small baits and light line and good use of electronics will be the key. Remember to purchase your 2016 fishing license. March 1st is the start of the new season. With spring upon us, it doesn’t hurt to get all your tackle up to date and get ready for the 2016 open water season.
