Grand Rapids Ice Fishing Report 3-18-15 by Tom Neustrom, MN Fishing Connections.
What happened to winter! It was here yesterday and gone today and tomorrow just at a flip of the switch. For all the winter enthusiasts most are putting away their winter gear and Spring has definitely sprung. People are raking their yards and it’s amazing the quick transition that has happened at a moment’s notice.
There is some ice fishing still available for panfish, but extreme caution should be taken. ATV and foot travel is now advised and driving vehicles on the ice should not be an option. As the days get warmer and the sun gets more intense and add a little rain, things will change even quicker.
You can check out the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources ice safety resource page before heading out to ensure safe travels on area lakes. No ice is safe ice! Use caution and let someone know where you are heading out in case of an emergency. Ice picks are always an important tool to have with you this time of year in case you would go through the ice. This time of the year foot travel is the most recommended.
Tom Neustrom shares a couple of tips on putting away your winter equipment. When putting away your snowmobiles and snowblowers, add some Sea Foam to protect the gas and make it run smooth. Charge your batteries also before putting them away.
