The Grand Rapids Ice Fishing Report 2-18-15 by Tom Neustrom, MN Fishing Connections.
With the waning days of the walleye northern pike season upon us anglers should remember the season closes on Sunday February 22nd. For those of you with permanent fish houses they must be removed on March 15th. These are important dates with the boom year in ice fishing in the Grand Rapids area with so many people enjoying good ice conditions and excellent fishing opportunities this winter.
Ice fishing is not over by any means and there is still good fishing for Crappies, bluegills, perch and trout the remaining weeks of the hard water season. Lakes abound in the Grand Rapids area for several of the mentioned species. Small baits are a key to success especially since late ice brings about a buffet of wiggly larvae below the surface. With the addition of a few welcome inches of snow there have been good opportunities for cross country ski and good trail conditions have provided good trail opportunities for some late season snowmobiling.
