The weather seems to be settling down and the fishing will keep getting back to normal on the Grand Rapids area lakes. Bass fishing has been a hot topic of late and anglers are enjoying some of the best fishing of the season. Spinner baits, frogs, and surface lures have been best in the shallows, jig and crawfish plastics in lily pads and thick cover, and drop shot fishing on deep weed beds and rocks piles. All have been excellent presentations in the correct situations.
The northern pike fishing has been excellent and they don’t seem to be bothered by some of the fronts that have been coming through. Deep structures on clear lakes and cabbage beds have been producing nice catches of pike. Number #8 Shad Raps, Husky Jerks, spoons, and pitching Spinner Baits all have been working.
Musky anglers have been having good success with several fish in the mid forties being seen and caught. North Star, Moose, Deer, Big Cutfoot, and Spider are lakes to try for a fish of a lifetime. Cow Girls and single bladed in line spinners have all been good for attracting these brutes. Burn them fast over weed beds and watch for follows. Good luck on the water.
