This week’s Grand Rapids Fishing Report is brought to you by Tom Neustrom, MN Fishing Connection guide service.
The weekend was given a dose of warm weather and the bite was good for several species. Walleyes were still mostly shallow on area bodies of water and jig and minnow was still producing. Leeches and rigs and split shot and a plain hook was a vital choice as well. There has been a slight bug hatch on some area lakes which will trigger walleyes to move deeper to off-shore structures. Leeches and rigs are deadly when the bug hatches happen and crawlers and rigs are my second choice. Try spinner and a half crawler or minnow along weedlines for a variance of presentation.
Panfish have just about finished spawning and search out weedlines adjacent to where the fish had spawning beds. Great places to start in early summer. The bass fishing has been good and most areas have fish on the beds. Just about anything thrown in their area will get a smashing strike. Musky fishing is just getting going on area lakes, but look for that to get better as weed growth increases and water temperatures rise.
So far it’s been a great season and the fish are biting. Get out and enjoy. Grand Rapids is a GREAT place to fish.
