Grand Rapids Fishing Report 4/12/17 by Thousand Lakes Sporting Goods.
Spring has sprung here in Northern Minnesota. As the ice vacates out area lakes, anglers often find themselves wondering what options they have available for fishing opportunities. Right now, the panfish bite has been heating up on most all of our area lakes. Crappies are being caught in good numbers in the remaining standing vegetation. Looking for areas with 5-10 feet of water and ample weed cover for starters when targeting crappies. For the bluegills, anglers are targeting these same areas, however they have been getting caught in slightly shallower weed beds-in 3-6 foot range. For both crappies and bluegills a combination of live bait and artificial offerings has been the ticket to consistent fishing. Slip bobbers and 1/32 ounce jigs have been the ticket!
If you don’t have a boat or a means of getting out on the lake, there are still some great bank fishing opportunities. Most of the local streams and rivers are having a pretty significant sucker run right now. Looking for current seams and deeper holes in the river have been holding larger quantities of fish. Using a simple slip sinker system on a live bait rig with a single night crawler will produce some great rod bending action. There are plenty of options for anglers right now to get out and enjoy this beautiful spring weather in Minnesota’s Nature.
