Come experience the balance of Minnesota’s outdoor nature and fun family festivities in Grand Rapids.  There is something for everyone at our annual premiere events.    A wide variety of events are scheduled year round in Grand Rapids. Upcoming events scheduled:

Weekend of Wheels – The last weekend in July (July 27 & 28, 2013):  The Northern Car Cruisers Car Club of Grand Rapids hosts their 29th Annual Car Show on Saturday, July 27th at the IRA Civic Center (north of Grand Rapids on Scenic Hwy 38).  Car Show is from 7am-4pm.  Car registration is $20.  Admission is $1/adult and children FREE.  There will be a pancake breakfast and concessions on site.  There is over 21 classes of cars that will be displayed and judged.  No pets or bikes are allowed in the car area.  The Itasca Vintage Car Club is hosting their 42nd Annual Car Show & Swap meet July 27 & 28 at the Itasca County Fairgrounds.   Gates open at 7am each day.  The Swap meet will host over 80 vendors displaying items from car parts to antiques and everything in between on July 27 & 28.  The vintage car show will take place on Sunday, July 28.  The cost to park up at the fairgrounds is $5/car, $2/motorcycle, $10/motorhome, bus or trailer.  Racing at the Grandstand will take place on Saturday, July 27 starting at 6:30pm.

Mississippi Melodie Showboat – The last three weekends in July (July 11-13, July 18-20, & July 25-27).  You will not want to miss this unique open air performance on the banks of the Mississippi River.  Come experience the talent of northern Minnesota at its finest.  You will be taken back in time to experience early 1900’s on the river.  A live performance will take place on the river bank stage as well as on an actual working showboat. The performances are colorful, that include song, dance, and skits.  Each performance starts at 9pm.  Cost for performances is $10 general admission, $8 for seniors & children, children under 6 are FREE.  Come experience a live performance in Minnesota’s nature.

Effie North Star Rodeo – The last weekend in July.  The rodeo is held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with performances at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. There is also a rodeo parade in “downtown” Effie on Saturday evening. Rodeo admission is $15.00 for adults and $9.00 for children ages 6 to 13. Three-Day Pass: Adults: $35.00; Children (6-13) $20.00.

Tall Timber Days – The first weekend of August each year.  Happening on Friday, Aug 2 Saturday, Aug 3 & Sunday, Aug 4, 2013.  Come enjoy the 32nd Annual community event that highlights the rich forestry history in Grand Rapids, MN.  This is a family friendly outdoor event that takes place in downtown Grand Rapids over a three day time period.  The three day community event has a street dance, craft show, food concessions, games, prizes, entertainment, and a parade on Sunday.

White Oak  Rendezvous – The first weekend of August each year (August 2-4, 2013) just north of Deer River.  Come and experience history with us! Watch and listen as costumed historical interpreters demonstrate and discuss what it was like to live centuries ago. See the 15th century soldiers of the Willensstark Company; meet the German Knight in armor, Lothar von Degen; visit the Northwest Company store with our head clerk Mr. McDonald; talk to the ladies at the baking oven; learn to throw a trade axe; and so much more! This is a true living history experience. Times: Friday, August 2nd – 10am to 7pm Saturday August 3rd – 10am to 7pm Sunday August 4th – 10am to 4pm.  Admission Adults – $5.00 Kids Under 10 Years Old – FREE.

Great River Energy Bike Tour – The Great River Energy Mesabi Trail Tour is a day-long event designed for families and serious trail riders alike. Four starting points allow riders to customize their routes anywhere from 13 to 67 miles. At the end of the day the event culminates with an outdoor picnic and concert. Whichever starting point you choose, you’ll encounter historic and scenic points of interest, with plenty of fun stops with food and musical entertainment along the way. To make the deal even sweeter, transportation from the finish to your starting point for you and your bike is on us.  Registration is $55/individual or $110 for families.

Quilt Shop Hop – August 2-18, 2013 – Quilt Minnesota brings together all quilt shops across Minnesota to feature 17 days in August to focus around all things quilting.  ABC’s of Quilting located in the Old Central School will host the Grand Rapids location.
