Welcome back to my blog. This week I have many exciting things to tell you about!

Dog Days of Summer

As we finally get out of the hottest, most humid, ‘Dog Days of Summer’, I thought it would be fun to spend a little time on the water with one of my favorite dogs, Rosco. We had a lot of fun playing fetch, and getting the stick from the water turned out to be quite the adventure for him. As a result of the warm summer weather coming to an end, swimming in lakes is starting to get cold! However, there are still plenty of activities to enjoy around the beautiful lakes in this area. Fishing, hiking, boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, just to name a few. The activities are endless, and are all so much fun. Since there are so many things you can do, visit our Things to Do page for more ideas and information.

Grand Rapids Farmers Market

This past week was National Farmers Market Week as well as the Grand Rapids Farmers Market‘s 30th birthday! On Saturday, I headed out to the market to check it out, and I was amazed. The market has produce and meats, like many farmers markets, but also has a lot of unique items that are special to this area.

DSC_0052Maple syrup, flowers, local meats, jams, spices, baked goods and so much more! The parking lot was full of vendors and there was so much to see. The Grand Rapids Farmers Market does a really neat program, where if you didn’t bring cash, they have a place where you can pay any vendor with a credit card! If you’re like me, and never carry cash, this was an awesome amenity to learn about.

DSC_0030I got the chance to talk to many of the vendors, and really learned a lot about the market. Several vendors have been going to this market for over 25 years! You could feel the vendors pride as they told me about their products they produced themselves. Being at the market was a fun way to spend my morning, and you could tell the sellers were enjoying themselves too. Finally, if you are looking for local foods, or even fun gifts, I definitely suggest shopping at the farmers market!

Between now and my next week’s blog, I’ll be attending the Itasca County Fair and trying out stand up paddle boarding! Tell me about your favorite fair food on Facebook, I want to hear from you! Furthermore, make sure to check in next week on my blog to hear about my time at these events!
