Eagle catches northern

Remarkable story: Boy catches perch, northern catches perch and eagle catches northern. Eagle breaks fishing line and drops northern on shore next to boy. Caleb C, Cohasset, MN on Grand Rapids area lake.

2015 Grand Rapids Minnesota Fishing Opener Report by Tom Neustrom, MN Fishing Connections – The 2015 Fishing Opener is upon us and the Grand Rapids area is gearing up for one of the best in recent years. There is a buzz in the air from the coffee shops to the bait stores and most everyone’s daily routine will be slightly interrupted come this Saturday May 9th.

The walleyes are done spawning on our area lakes and we are expecting that fishing will be excellent for other species as well. With water temperatures in the 50’s look for most of the activity to be shallow in less than 12 feet of water. Some of the lakes that may have a “hot bite” will be Big and Little Cutfoot lakes, Big Winnie, Big Splithand, Bowstring, Sand, Jessie and Round. These are always traditional great destinations for the best opening day walleye fishing opportunities. Other species such as crappies and northern pike should be on your bucket list as well.

Throwing in a pair of hip waders is suggested due to low water levels on Grand Rapids Area Lakes.  This will help with launching and landing boats at the public lake accesses.

Grand Rapids is without a doubt one of the best fishing destinations in all of Minnesota. In Grand Rapids, Minnesota, you will find multi-species fishing opportunities.  From panfish to trophy fish, you will find it on Grand Rapids area lakes.  Come join us and share in the fun and excitement.  Check out the new Partial Week Lodging Deals at Grand Rapids, Minnesota Fishing Resorts.
